Popular Bluesky Hashtags for Street Photography in 2026

Bluesky is one of the platforms that is still relatively unknown but is growing with every passing week. As we dive into 2026, it is rapidly becoming the place to be for visual artists.

If you are a street photographer, being on Bluesky can help you build a community, get eyes on your work, and connect with like-minded creatives away from the algorithmic chaos of other apps.

Initially, your account might seem a bit empty. The best way to fix this is to follow users, use starter packs, and, most importantly, follow and use hashtags.

How to use and add hashtags on Bluesky

If you are new to the platform, you might be wondering: do hashtags work on Bluesky? Yes, they absolutely do, and they are incredibly simple to use.

Using hashtags on Bluesky is fairly similar to using them on all other platforms. You simply type the hashtag into your post, and the platform will automatically hyperlink it. Once posted, your image will be added to the public feed for that specific tag.

People searching for these hashtags can then choose to see all posts in two feeds: Top or Latest. The names are self-explanatory. The Top feed highlights posts with the most engagement, while the Latest feed shows a chronological stream of recent uploads.

To look up a hashtag on Bluesky, you can either click on one you see in a post or type it directly into the search bar. Browsing relevant tags is an excellent way to discover new inspiration and start engaging with other photographers.

Location-specific hashtags

There are simply too many location hashtags for me to list here. You should always use your own location and add a hashtag for it.

For example, I live in Antwerp, the most beautiful city in Belgium. So when I post my local work, I use tags like #Antwerp, #Antwerpen, #Belgium, and # Belgie. Doing this helps you connect with local photographers and people who are interested in the specific culture of your city.

Bluesky vs. Instagram hashtags for street photography

Many photographers transition from Instagram to Bluesky and wonder whether they should use the exact same hashtag strategy.

While many core tags like #streetphotography overlap perfectly, the culture is a bit different. On Instagram, users often spam up to thirty hashtags to please the algorithm. On Bluesky, less is more. The platform is heavily text-based and community-driven. Stick to three to five highly relevant tags per post.

You do not need to use bloated tags like #instagood or #photooftheday to get noticed on Bluesky. Focus on the descriptive tags that actually tell people what your photo is about.
