Antwerp 10 Miles 2025 Street photography diary

This past weekend, I went to the Antwerp 10 miles for the first time. Ofcourse, I brought my camera, as I figured this would be an excellent street photography opportunity. It turned out to be a productive and informative photo walk.

A short intro to the Antwerp 10 miles for those not from Belgium, perhaps. Here, it’s a big yearly event. The 39th edition already. With 40,000 participants this year, spread over three types of runs: a short run (6km), a kids run (1.5km), and, of course, the ten miles.

For those eager to join, the next one is scheduled for April 26, 2026.

My findings from doing street photography during the 10-mile

Walking amongst the crowd, I made a few mental notes. Things to keep in mind while photographing during such events. Things I should do (better) next time.

  • Pick a side: It’s a parcour, so you’ll have supporters on both sides. And it won’t be easy, maybe even impossible, to cross to the other side of the route. As I mentioned, there are about 40.000 participants, it’s a constant stream of runners. And since Antwerp doesn’t have many tunnels or bridges, options for crossing are limited.
  • Get there early: This makes sure you have plenty of time to photograph all the elements.
  • Look at the runners but also at the crowd: Both will provide you with interesting elements. Don’t get tunnel visioned in just one of the two.
  • Double back: Walk one way, then take the same way back. The situation will be different, the light will have turned, and you will have various options.
  • Don’t overpack: You’ll have to move through crowds, so having too much on you will make that more difficult and annoying.

Anyway, enough talking. Here are my…

Were you there too and took photos? What are your findings?
