Street art tour in Boulogne-sur-Mer

When talking about Boulogne-sur-Mer, we think of an ancient city by the sea. And although those two characteristics are correct, they are not all-encompassing. Did you know Boulogne-sur-Mer has a fantastic and modern street-art tour?

Visiting Boulogne-sur-Mer, you are probably there to enjoy the fresh maritime air. So going inside in a stuffy museum might not be the favorite option. Enter: the Boulogne-sur-Mer street art tour.

The tour is about 4 kilometers long. Perfect to start exploring the city first thing in the morning. Or after lunch. You know what, you can decide for yourself when you feel like doing it.

That being said, 4 kilometers with searching, getting lost on occasion, and of course, really taking in the artworks will probably take you around 3 hours.

You can download the app with the route on the official Boulogne-sur-Mer website.

The street art in numbers

If the 4 kilometers of the walk isn’t enough numbers for you, here are some more!

  • There are 43 pieces of street art scattered around Boulogne-sur-Mer
  • 5235 of square meters are painted with artworks. That’s nearly an entire soccerfield painted!

Combine the Street art tour of Boulogne-sur-Mer

Whether you feel 4 kilometers is too much to do at once or you feel like changing up the artworks with other things once every so often, Boulogne-sur-Mer offers plenty of variation! You can go inside and visit the aquarium of Nausicaá. Though for that one, you need a day, at least.

You can spend a visit to the crypts of the city. It’s a prominent place, so calculate 1 or 2 hours to visit. You can see a lot of (religious) artifacts from the city and surroundings. There you can see a different kind of wall-art too.

Another place to visit is the museum of Boulogne-sur-Mer. This used to be the old fortress of the city. As you might expect in this museum, you can learn more about the city and its history.

Staying at Boulogne-sur-Mer

During my visit to Boulogne-sur-Mer, I stayed at the Evancy hotel. An excellent place to stay as you get the feeling of an apartment in a hotel. You have a kitchen, sometimes several bedrooms, and of course a little terrace to enjoy the view over the city.
