Photo Diary June 2025: Birthday parties, concerts, and lots and lots of work

June was one of those months that looked to last for an eternity. I hadn’t done much street photography, as I had been so focused on work photography, so I was exhausted and artistically drained for a bit.

But since July is usually a bit quieter, I’m sure I will do plenty of street photography again in the coming month.

But let’s focus on June again. Look back to catapult myself into the next month. It started with some street photography in Antwerp. However, it was not a particularly successful session, as I was still practicing the new skills and insights I had gained from Chris Harrisson‘s workshop at the Brussels Street Photography Festival.

Here and there, I had some time between work to do some street photography as well. For example, I saw a man spraying graffiti between two work meetings.

Over the month, I also recorded new episodes for the Slices of Time Street Photography podcast. The one with Darren Sacks is online already, the ones with Tom Pitts and Hugo Lee will be online soon!

For work, I went all over Flanders. Brussels, Brussels again, Wilrijk, Antwerp, Duffel, Hasselt, yet again Brussels, Kortrijk, Hasselt again, Genk, Bornem, Willebroek, Sint-Niklaas, Rijmenam, Antwerpen yet again, a few times in Ghent and Mechelen.

Luckily, there was also some time to relax. Hanging out with friends (sometimes in a pool to cool down), having three birthday parties (niece, godson, and my dad). I added some anonymous photos of those below.

I was also happy to attend some concerts at the OLT and the Best Kept Secret festival, featuring artists such as Kiasmos, Lucy Dacus, The Streets, Amen Ra, Kneecap, TV on the Radio, Soulwax, and Caribou.

There was also some (photo) community engagement for me. I attended my first ever protest at the Rode Lijn (Red Line) against the passiveness of our government against Israel and their genocide in Gaza.

I also launched a small street photography community in my hometown, which is currently a group chat, with our first photowalk scheduled for the beginning of July. I attended the opening of the new exhibitions at the FOMU museum.
