Photo diary October 2024

What a month. Especially photography-wise, I have never had such a productive month, I think. There have only been 10 days I didn’t go out to use my camera. On those days, I was obviously editing or doing other admin.

To show how exhausting this month has been, I had to take a 20-minute power nap to get enough energy for this blog post. But here I am writing it.

On the topic of writing, I’ve been out so much that I totally forgot and neglected writing for my blog. Whoops. I’m so sorry!

Anyway, I started the month with a two-day workshop with Selaru Ovidiu. He’s a London-based street photographer who gave a street photo workshop in Brussels, so obviously, I had to go.

After that, I had to edit the photos and also work on my own workshop. I made new slides for my smartphone photography workshop for corporations, but I also wanted to include new photos in them. So, obviously, I went out with my Samsung S24+ to take photos.

Then Thilo Jaehnig, the guest of my first podcast episode, came from Hamburg to Antwerp. I was happy to show him around the city to some good photo spots. In return, he taught me a lot about photography and inspired me to use the 28mm lens more.

Of course, I have some free time with friends, too. A night of drinking Belgian Trappists always lifts the mood.

I won’t mention every photo walk I did, as that would be an entire book. The ones that stood out:

  • The two-days workshop
  • The walk with Thilo Jaehnig
  • The one in Liege for a day
  • One during the Antwerp Marathon
  • And one where I got stopped by a security guard

I also worked on the Slices of Times podcast, preparing for talks with Iris.straatfoto and Mania de Praeter. Both episodes will be available soon, and of course, I edited the one with Charis Ioannou.

There was also lots of work, including shooting at several corporate events and portraits for a few companies. The ones that stood out were a Star Trek-themed goodbye party for a Vice Rector and a company party at the Vleeshalle in Mechelen. I have also given my smartphone photography workshop with the new and improved slides a few times.
