5 ways to make money with a photography blog

Travel bloggers making money

Making money with photography isn’t always easy. Especially if you want to do it with a photography blog. But there are ways to do it.

Blogging about photography has several benefits. It exposes your work, showcases your experience and knowledge, and provides you with a community of like-minded people.

For me, it’s a good way to organize my thoughts, keep a log of my progress, and showcase my work.

So, while writing, it’s also possible to earn a bit of money. I see five main ways to do that.

#1 Place ads on your blog posts

Via Google AdSense and some other places, you can allow them to place ads within your blog posts. It’s a one-time activity per article, which you can do while writing it. And then it just earns you money.

However, it’s not a significant amount of money—a few cents per 1000 views. So, it’s probably best for popular blogs.

#2 Write sponsored articles

As soon as you start blogging and getting indexed, you’ll be getting lots of emails to do sponsored articles. Although many are spam, some are legitimate. It can be worth your time and effort to engage with these.

Some businesses like to write a blog post about their products or services to increase traffic or earn backlinks.

Webshops, such as Amazon, utilize affiliate programs to increase their sales. It means you place a link to their products. Every time the product is sold, you receive a small percentage of the sale. Easy as that.

#4 Promote your services or products

If you, like me, provide photography services, you can showcase them in your blog posts and earn money from the gigs.

Writing about how you do your portrait sessions, for example, or giving tips on how to book an event photographer.

#5 Use blogs to promote your prints

If you don’t have any services to sell, you can always use your blogs to promote the prints of your photos. This way, people know the story behind the image they’re buying, for example.

There are likely more ways to earn money with a photography blog, but these five options are among the most common and the best places to start.
