As a 25 year old man, I am happy with the amount of the word I already saw. I’ve already visited 19 countries (full list at the end of this blogpost). But this does not mean I don’t have anymore places I would like to go to.
All 7 countries in my wishlist are far away places for me. I will have to save up enough money to even think about getting there. But it never hurts to dream, right? So that’s why I decided to make a list of the seven places I would love to visit one day.
As I was making this list, I discovered most of them are desolate, cold and not really popular with the big public. Maybe that’s why they are so expensive? And maybe that’s what I like about them?
My #1 spot with reason. I imagine the country being the most untouched by modern society. People still living in yurts with their livestock and traveling the country. If I’m going, it has to be in the summer, so I can witness their famous horse-festival.
Imagine being outnumbered by polar bears on an island between Norway and the North Pole. Sounds scary? It isn’t! It sounds like heaven to me. During winter you will see no sun at all, but you can see the aurora borealis. During summer it’s nothing but sun, polar bears, caribou and glaciers.
I feel this one is probably one of the most popular destinations. Especially if you take a look on Instagram. I feel it’s popular for a reason. The landscapes are unique, yet accessible. Not taking photo’s while you’re there should be considered a crime.
Where Iceland is actually pretty green (during summer), Greenland is not. The landscapes are harsh, you have to get around on everything else but wheeled vehicles. An expensive and cold experience, but pretty unique. Something I would love to tell my (grand)children about.
I have been researching to get there, but at the moment it’s just too expensive. It’s a remote and huge country. A mountainous country. It will be the ideal place for a long camping-trip. A very long camping-trip. I just hope I can convince my friends to help carry my camera-gear.
6. Southern Africa
This is not really a country, but more a region consisting of South-Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Mozambique, Swaziland and Lesotho. And if my bankaccount isn’t empty by then, maybe I’ll throw in Madagascar. This is the only warm region in my list, I know. Just imagine all the different animals you could see there!
The only country in this list which I want to visit for the cities and not necessarily the nature. Not the culture, but the actually cities. The buildings and landscapes the people there have created are stunning.
The 19 countries I’ve been already: Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands, The Vatican, Canada, The United States and Namibia.
What countries are on your bucket list?
